Redwood Garden Office

Rob and Fliss needed an office separate from their house. They wanted more space, to reclaim the room in the house, and sought a clear separation between work and home life. After carefully considering their options, they decided to create a two-person garden office that would provide a peaceful, dedicated environment.

Rob runs his business from home, and as a teacher, Fliss often needs to work from home as well. They initially had a room in the house that they used as an office, but they soon realised they needed a larger, dedicated, and professional workspace free from the distractions of home.

After researching their options, Rob and Fliss decided that a two-person garden office was the ideal solution for their needs. Being completely detached from their home meant that at the end of a long day, Rob could lock the doors and leave the stresses of ‘the office’ behind, greatly improving his work-life balance. Additionally, the garden office provided Fliss with a peaceful space to prepare for school or do marking, allowing her to focus without distraction.

Their new office sits in their beautiful garden, offering stunning views of the open countryside—a significant improvement over working in the smallest room of the house.

The finished project

The building is set on a concrete base and measures 6m x 3.5m with a 300mm front overhang with LED lights. An additional concrete base was constructed for the external air conditioning unit. The building has Redwood cladding on three sides and maintenance-free Sovereign composite cladding on the back.

Fliss and Rob choose Anthracite UPVC doors and windows with integrated blinds in the doors.

Inside, the garden office is finished with grooved board walls and a plain ceiling without joining strips. The interior includes 10 LED lights, four double sockets, air conditioning, crisp white painted walls, and dark grey laminate flooring.

The perfect work from home space isn’t easy to achieve but Rob and Fliss’s office is pretty close, it makes the most of the garden and those stunning views.

"We got exactly what we wanted and it was good value for money."

"We did find other garden rooms that were suitable but they didn’t quite give us everything we wanted, with Cosy there was no compromise, we got exactly what we wanted plus they were the cheapest quote that we received."

We caught up with Fliss recently to see how they are getting on since having their Cosy Garden Office.

Why did you need a garden room?
It’s very simple really, we wanted extra space away from the house for an office.

Did you know what style or design of garden room you wanted?
Yes, we knew the shape, exactly what we wanted it for and we wanted it to fit the style of the house, we wanted a natural wood cladding not composite.

How did you hear about Cosy Garden Rooms?
I was chatting with a friend, telling her that we were thinking of getting a garden office, and it turned out that we had a mutual friend and she gave me Mark’s number.

What happened when you contacted Cosy Garden Rooms?
I sent Mark an initial enquiry on WhatsApp he replied within 2 hours and arranged a site visit for a few days later. The communication was good, it was easy to get in touch, always very responsive, we couldn’t fault it really. The build was very positive, it took 4 days from beginning to end. The team were tidy, polite and always on time and they can drink as much tea as you can make!

What is your favourite thing about your garden room?
Having an office away from the house, having that physical separation has proved really beneficial. It sounds like a small thing as it is literally a few steps to the house, we didn’t think it would make such a difference but it has.

Also, the air conditioning is brilliant! Although it was an extra cost, it's worth its weight in gold—we highly recommend it.

Was your Cosy Garden Room good value for money?
Yes, when we started to do our research, we realised what a wide variety of options there are and that they range massively in build quality and price. We wanted a fully insulated building that could be used all year round. We needed a garden room not a shed or a summer house.

We did find other garden rooms that were suitable but they didn’t quite give us everything we wanted, with Cosy there was no compromise, we got exactly what we wanted plus they were the cheapest quote that we received.

Do you use and enjoy your garden room in the way that you initially planned?
Yes, we know it is a flexible space and we have considered it as a guest room / spare room. We could easily accommodate a sofa bed but for us we love the office so that’s what it is going to be for us. We wouldn’t want to go back to having to have an office in the house.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of buying a garden room?
Don’t hesitate, it’s been really positive for us and our family. Not only do we have our room back in the house we also have a separation between home and work which is something we didn’t have before and that’s been really beneficial.

Would you recommend Cosy Garden Rooms?
Absolutely, they were polite, professional, always on time, flexible and very knowledgeable. The finished product is superb!
